When I Grow Up...

Over the last few weeks, I have really seen a huge leap in Brandon and Evan's imaginations and verbal language. They are growing up so much, and you can really see the changes day to day and week to week. In one area, they keep talking about all of the things they will do when they get "bigger." The biggest thing they want to do is play sports. Both boys insist that they will play baseball (that is the favorite of the moment), basketball, tennis, football, you name it. We have driven by baseball fields a few times by our house, so they tell me about how when they get bigger, they are going to play baseball, and Steve and I will get to sit on the bleachers and watch. They also note that we will have to stand back and watch out when they hit the ball so we don't get hurt! :)

The picture above shows the boys working on their baseball skills in the back yard with their dad. The machine they have they got from the Easter Bunny (via Papa John), and it is awesome. The boys press the red button on "home plate," and the red arm swings up and loads a ball onto the black grip. Then, Evan and Brandon swing away. Evan especially loves playing.

Both of the fellas have also talked about jobs they want to have when they get bigger. Some of the most recent (besides professional sports players) include firemen, train conductors, and, interestingly enough, "sea divers." I think the last one came from watching "Finding Nemo," but I can't be sure. We actually checked out some books on diving from the library last week so we could read all about it. Aunt Katie, Brandon and Evan are excited for you to tell them about how to SCUBA! :)

Besides talking about what they will do when they grow up, Evan and Brandon have really impressed me lately with the development of their imagination. It seems like they are suddenly able to come up with all kinds of stories and games all on their own. For a while, they played on the "stage" of our bay window in the morning with the curtains closed, pretending it was their train. They would drive the train to the house of their friends Matthew and Jonathan and see if they were home. Then, one day, they decided the stage was a beach and had to save some pigs from drowning in the water! Yesterday, the boys up and decided that they were superheros, and they had to put on their "special feet" to jump really high and their "special ears" to hear things far away. Today, my bed was a waterfall, and they slid down the side of the waterfall and got really wet. I honestly have no idea where they get some of these ideas from, but it is becoming so entertaining to be their mom! :)
