Throughout the week leading up to Christmas, the fellas and I had a ton of fun spending extra time with family and friends.
One day, Papa John took Brandon, Evan, and Zack to Bass Pro Shops so they could get their first tackle boxes, and I got to tag along. As you can imagine, the day was a huge it. The boys each picked out a tackle box, stringer, and bag of bobbers. After getting lunch at Bass Pro Shops, we came home to set up the tackle boxes, and Papa showed the boys all of the super cool tools in his tackle box. We definitely have three boys who are excited about fishing!
We spent time with Papa Wayne and Grandma Jane on Saturday, with the boys getting in tons of sledding time with Papa and then making gingerbread houses with Grandma Jane and me. They turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself! :)
On Monday, the boys and I took a trip into Chicago with Aunt Andi. We took the train in the morning and headed to the Willis Tower and ate some lunch before heading to the Christkindl Market and then back to the train. As with many outings with kids, not everything went according to plan, including having two different stops of at least 25 minutes EACH for the bathroom (one of which was in a Starbucks with only one bathroom). Oye. At least Andi and I can look back at that and laugh, right? Right?!
While at the Willis Tower, the boys were really excited to go out on "The Ledge," a glass cube that sticks out from the side of the building. Because it is made of glass, you can see straight down to the street below your feet. I have to admit that all three of my kids were less hesitant than Andrea and me about going out. It is a wild feeling - check out the pictures below.

On Tuesday, we kept up our adventures by going to the Frankfort Children's Museum with my mom and Uncle Al. The boys had tons of fun playing and enjoyed the 1:1 kid to adult ratio. Brandon and Evan locked into a small play area upstairs that had a few different types of unique blocks, and they ended up building one giant structure with all of them. All of the adults in our group were really impressed with how long they spent on the project (at least 45 minutes), and we loved watching all of their problem-solving. It is so fun to be with the kids in a situation where you can almost see the wheels in their head turning. Here is a picture of the final product:

Not to be outdone, Zack checked out the entire museum and cooked, fished, built towers, drew, and practiced his ice skating skills. :)
The next day we spent the day at Jump Zone and Panera with friends before finally collapsing. All four of us were so excited to spend the day home on Thursday, resting up for Steve and Sonic to arrive that evening. Then, we were ready for the Christmas festivities to begin!
